At a Crossroads

Don’t you just love it when you’re trundling (yes, I’m using that word) along and everything seems to be headed where you thought and then a phone call later, it’s a whole different picture?

Yes, I’m being somewhat facetious here. I don’t love this scenario but I’m learning to be thankful in these times because it usually means God has brought me to a place of change. I don’t like change either but I know I need it.

So, here I am at this crossroads and the choices are not at all what I thought they would be. They are …

Once Lost, Now Friend

Today I read the story in Luke 5 of the paralyzed man Jesus forgives and heals. But what really caught my heart this time was his friends. They fought to bring their friend before Jesus. We have no details about them, anything they said or what their relationship was to this man, only that he was their friend.

So I allowed myself to imagine the scene. Who were these men and more importantly, what did they feel and believe?

I imagined their great determination. They believed Jesus was the answer to their friend’s need. They believed it so strongly that …

Back to the Cross

Hands holding cross

As I shared in an earlier post, toward the end of last year God spoke three words to me: Know my grace.

Since then I’ve been searching the Bible for a better understanding of God’s grace specific to my prayer.

Then recently in my Bible study small group, a piece of the puzzle fell into place. The author of the study we’re doing (Balancing Life’s Demands by Chip Ingram) made an eye-opening statement:

“Grace produces discipline.”

There was my connection. That which I sought as part of the fruit of the Spirit (Gal. 5:22-23) was directly related to …

Grace & Prayer

“All our prayers depend on our own faith in God’s pardoning grace… Pardon opens the door to all God’s love and blessings, Because God has pardoned all our sins, our prayers can go through to obtain all we need.” — Andrew Murray

Reading this stopped me in my tracks today. There are times that I wonder if my prayers are getting through. This made me wonder if perhaps I still struggle to understand what God’s grace means for me and if so, is this why I struggle to believe at times that God will answer my prayers?

Murray goes on …

Searching for Grace

Toward the end of last year, I was praying about an area of my life that I just seem to struggle with all the time. I’m so tired of it. Truly. And I’ve prayed for years about it. It just takes up too much of my time and energy. I want to be free. Really and truly free of it. Then comes the frustration of why God won’t just take this out of my life and change my heart. Then comes the reality that He’s leaving it in my life for a reason, that I need to learn something here. …

The Shadow of Your Smile by Susan May Warren

I had the chance to read this book late last year as a recipient of an advanced reader copy (Thank you, Tyndale). I love Susan May Warren’s Deep Haven books, and this one is so moving. I’m a sucker for a story about a married couple and this one has a really cool twist. Will Noelle and Eli find each other again and save their marriage? You have to read and find out.

Don’t miss out on Susan’s contest down below too.

About the book: The Shadow of Your Smile

Miracle Monday—So I’m a day late…

I like the ring of that—Miracle Monday. Forgive me for being a day late. But that doesn’t mean we can’t still celebrate the miracles all around us.

So, my latest miracle? I don’t know if you’d call it a miracle per say, but I say it’s indicative of how God is working in my life. To me, that’s miraculous no matter what it is. I mean, come on. The Creator of the universe takes delight in me. And you. That’s downright awe-inspiring.

Miraculous.

I leave tomorrow for a writer conference. My favorite event of the year. I love ACFW (American …
